October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time to focus on the critical importance of early detection. At Titusville Area Hospital (TAH), we are dedicated to providing support, education, and testing year-round to ensure our community has access to the resources needed for early breast cancer detection.
In partnership with TAH, the Titusville Area Health Center Foundation proudly sponsors the Breast Cancer Awareness Fund (BCAF), established in 2010. Since its inception, this program has provided over 400 free mammograms to individuals in our service area. Should any concerns arise from the screening mammograms, the BCAF also covers the costs of necessary diagnostic tests, including additional mammograms and ultrasounds conducted at TAH.
The BCAF aims to eliminate financial barriers for those who are uninsured or underinsured, helping to decrease the incidence of advanced breast cancer in our community. We encourage women aged 40 and older to adhere to annual screening guidelines as recommended by healthcare providers. Early detection is vital for improving prognosis and treatment outcomes.
Our dedicated doctors and staff actively promote this program, identifying patients who could benefit and providing guidance on testing options. While we raise awareness throughout the year, we place special emphasis on the BCAF during October, reminding everyone of the importance of regular screenings.
This program is primarily funded by the Titusville Area Health Center Foundation and generous individual donors. In celebration of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a devoted supporter has donated an outdoor pink chair to symbolize our commitment to this important cause. Raffle tickets to win this chair will be available for purchase at the escort desk, with all proceeds supporting future funding for the program. The chair will be showcased in the hospital lobby throughout October, and the lucky winner will be drawn on October 31.
